The Pacific Centre for Border Management is one step closer!

We are pleased to announce the signing of two important agreements that will transform border management training and education across the Pacific.

On Thursday 7 November 2024, The Fiji National University (FNU) signed agreements with the Oceania Customs Organisation (OCO) and the Centre for Customs and Excise Studies (CCES) to deliver cutting-edge training and education programs in the specialised field of border management.

This dynamic tripartite partnership will serve to enhance the capabilities of border management officers across the Pacific region. Commencing with customs training in 2025, the Pacific Centre for Border Management will provide a broad range of vocational and higher education courses that will ultimately include other sectors, including immigration, biosecurity and maritime enforcement. The courses will be offered both online and at FNU campuses in Namaka, Nasinu, Labasa, and Ba.

In hosting the signing ceremony, FNU’s Pro Vice-Chancellor, Dr Isimeli Tagicakiverata, welcomed the partnership with the OCO and CCES, noting that the initiative is more than just an educational partnership but about creating a sustainable pathway for professional development in the customs sector.

The OCO was represented at the ceremony by Ms Nancy Oraka, OCO Head of Secretariat, while CCES was represented by its CEO, Professor David Widdowson.
