Centre for Customs and Excise Studies CEO, Professor David Widdowson, delivered the keynote address at this year’s Korea Customs Week, which was held in Seoul from 25-28 April 2023.
Speaking on the theme of Global Customs Cooperation and Digital Customs, Professor Widdowson addressed the need for customs administrations to leverage their use of disruptive technologies such as big data, data analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, the Internet of Things, blockchain and biometrics.
Attended by customs administrations from 76 countries, along with representatives from academia and the private sector, the Korea Customs Service hosted the event to share best practices and discuss significant issues facing the customs community. The event provided an excellent opportunity for participants to engage in candid discussions on ways to address new and emerging technologies and their impact on the regulation of international trade and travel.
