In May 2014, 35 Customs Officers from the Maldives Customs Service (MCS) graduated with a Diploma in Customs Management delivered by the Centre for Customs & Excise Studies (CCES) and accredited by the Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA). The curriculum for the diploma included seven subjects plus a work project. Officers who completed the Diploma are now eligible for advance credit to the Bachelor of Border Management offered by CCES through Charles Sturt University (CSU).
The graduates received their certificates at a ceremony held at the Maldives Customs Training Academy with Dr. Amal Ali (Maldives Minister for Gender, Family & Human Rights) as the honourable guest. Commissioner General of MCS Honorable Ahmed Mohamed, executives from MCS and senior officers also attended the ceremony. Prof. David Widdowson CEO- CCES, Adjunct Prof. Stephen Muller, Adjunct Prof. Greg Weppner and Mr. Jayantha Amarasekera senior lecturer all attended the ceremony online via GoToMeeting from Canberra.
