On 2 December, Professor Widdowson and Dr Ibrahim Saleh Al-Naimi, President of the Community College of Qatar, met in Doha to sign an MOU to jointly provide a comprehensive program of Customs education and training for the State of Qatar.

In his address, Professor Widdowson said, “The program recognises the significant role played by Customs in the economic development of Qatar. The need to achieve and maintain high professional standards throughout the Customs Department is critical to the success of the State of Qatar’s rapid growth in the international marketplace. Customs not only ensures compliance with the country’s regulatory requirements but also plays an important part in the facilitation of trade and travel.”

The first program under the MOU will be an Associate Diploma in Applied Science majoring in Customs, will commence in 2013. Its development was instigated by the General Directorate of Customs, whose Managing Director, H. E. Ahmed Ali Mohd. Al-Mohanadi has given the program his personal support.
